Guided Tour with Curator Lucas Haberkorn
11 November 2026, 2–3 PM
Experience Georg Baselitz’s bold and uncompromising art up close as we invite you to a guided tour of the current exhibition at Gl. Holtegaard. Led by curator Lucas Haberkorn, the tour offers an exploration of the German artist’s late works and an artistic career that has left a profound mark on European art for more than six decades.
Inside the main building, designed by Lauritz de Thurah in 1756, we delve into Baselitz’s distinctive artistic universe. Since the 1960s, he has challenged conventional ideas of what a painting can be, particularly through his iconic inverted motifs, radically expressive visual language and continuous experimentation with painting and sculpture.
Through a selection of paintings and sculptures, you will discover how Baselitz continued to explore and reinvent his artistic language well into his later years. The guided tour offers insights into the works’ subjects, materials and art-historical contexts, as well as Baselitz’s lasting influence on European art over more than six decades.
The ticket includes admission to the art centre, as well as a cup of coffee and a slice of cake at the café.

The Art
Residency
As early as May 2025, the public has been able to follow the extensive restoration that will bring Gl. Holtegaard back to its grandeur.
The Art Residency program stems from a growing interest in sculpture as an artistic form of expression, realized through techniques that craftsmen have used for centuries. Contemporary artists have increasingly embraced these techniques and are expressing themselves in their own artistic language, while challenging boundaries and expanding our understanding of classical sculpture.
Therefore, The Art Residency x Gl. Holtegaard attracts and supports a generation of Danish and international contemporary artists, who are currently eager to work in our workshops in Pietrasanta.
We can see a clear trend towards the revival of traditional crafts and their re-entry into the art scene. It is our hope that The Art Residency can help artists move from idea to production and thus serve as a starting point for new works. At the same time, the program creates the necessary framework to unite artistic creativity with craft knowledge and skill.
A sculpture begins as an idea! Without a workshop, it is difficult to turn the idea into reality.
